Office Assistant - Parks & Recreation

Now accepting applications with resume for a full-time (40 hours per week) Office Assistant for the Parks & Recreation Department. Performs variety of administrative, financial, accounting and clerical functions. Assists public over the phone and in person, processes registrations, schedules rentals, balances all cash handling activities and maintains financial records. Provides support to Parks & Recreation team as assigned. Requires knowledge normally acquired through completion of high school degree or equivalent, along with additional secretarial/clerical courses from an accredited college or business school. Associates Degree preferred. Eighteen months to two years of administrative assistant experience in a busy office environment. Applicant should be able to perform variety of administrative, secretarial and clerical functions with mental ability to handle multiple tasks and pressure situations and meeting deadlines.  Approved applicant must have a complete physical and drug screening along with background check. This is a Level 4 Technical Unit union position. Start rate is $16.47 per hour (non-negotiable), full benefits, for 40 hours per week, including evenings and weekends as needed.

Chief Assistant to the Supervisor

Under the direction and supervision of the Township Supervisor, coordinates meetings and activities with other departments and outside agencies, provides high level administrative support to the Supervisor’s office and assists with solving resident concerns.  Performs a variety of complex, highly sensitive and confidential support functions for the Township Supervisor, as well as working with the public and public agencies, and several other duties.

The job requires knowledge normally acquired through the completion of a Bachelor’s Degree in Business Administration, Public Administration, or a or an equivalent combination of training and experience.  Minimum of three years professional experience such as public relations, communications, office manager or marketing.

Intermediate level proficiency with general office equipment, related business software such as email, Microsoft Office suite, including word processing, spreadsheet and database software applications. Ability to communicate effectively and present ideas orally and in writing. Must have the ability to prepare and submit grant proposals. General accounting skills necessary to prepare and analyze complex financial and budget reports. Skills in organizing schedules and coordinating associated resources. Ability to establish effective work relationships and use good judgment, initiative and resourcefulness, when dealing with staff, volunteers, program participants, vendors, and the public. Ability to work effectively within deadlines and with changing work priorities. Ability to meet the scheduling requirements of the department by attending conferences, seminars and Board meeting which may require working some nights and travel to other cities or states. Physical ability to occasionally sit at a computer terminal for extended periods of time, walk, stand, stoop, carry light items up to twenty-five pounds.

Approved applicant must have a complete physical and drug screening along with background check. Full-time with benefits, non-union position, salary $60,000-63,000 depending on experience.

Youth Sports Coordinator

Orion Township is seeking qualified applicants for the position of Youth Sports Coordinator. Applicants must have knowledge of game rules and mechanics of the following sports: soccer, basketball, baseball, football and volleyball, enjoy working with youth 3-12, willing to assist in the development of lesson plans, games and drills, incorporating one-on-one and group style activities. Desired qualifications include participation in at least three different organized sports, CPR and First Aid certified, and three years experience in coaching or teaching children under the age of 10 years, high school diploma or equivalent and at least 18 years of age. Approved applicant must pass complete physical and drug screening along with a background check. Hourly wage is $9-12.00 per hour depending on experience, 5-10 hours per week, April 25 – August 25, non-union position, no benefits. Hours include evenings and weekends as needed.

Paid on Call Firefighters

Applications are being accepted to become a Volunteer Paid-On-Call Firefighter with the Orion Township Fire Department. If accepted we will conduct a thorough background check, physical with drug screening, criminal history and driving check before you will be enrolled in an agility test a State Certified Fire Academy, Basic Emergency Technician School and upon successful complication of each we will provide you with Firefighting equipment and a pager to be able to respond to emergencies. This is a very time consuming job that requires dedication and willingness to help your community and neighbors but the sacrifice and hours away from your family reaps many rewards.
