Clerk - Planning & Zoning

Orion Township is accepting applications with cover letter and resume for full-time (40 hours per week) Clerk – Planning & Zoning. Duties will include performing secretarial support tasks related to regular and special meetings of the Planning Commission and Zoning Board of Appeals, and assisting the public over the phone and in person with a variety of planning and zoning requests. Applicant must be able to attend a minimum of four night meetings a month for the (1st & 3rd Wednesdays, and 2nd & 4th Mondays). Proficient typing and word processing skills required, including preparation of meeting minutes.

Applicants must be able to establish effective working relationships with both the public and other Township departments, and performing a variety of clerical skills. Applicants must have excellent communication skills. Minimum qualifications include knowledge normally acquired through completion of a high school degree or equivalent, six to twelve months of general clerical experience, computer skills in word processing, database and spreadsheet applications, mental ability to handle pressures when dealing with concerns of the public and contractors, and physical ability to work at a counter and lift boxes of files weighing up to 30 pounds. This is a Level 3 Technical Union position. Start rate is $15.57 per hour (non-negotiable), plus benefits, for 40 hours per week.

Paid on Call Firefighters

Applications are being accepted to become a Volunteer Paid-On-Call Firefighter with the Orion Township Fire Department. If accepted we will conduct a thorough background check, physical with drug screening, criminal history and driving check before you will be enrolled in an agility test a State Certified Fire Academy, Basic Emergency Technician School and upon successful complication of each we will provide you with Firefighting equipment and a pager to be able to respond to emergencies. This is a very time consuming job that requires dedication and willingness to help your community and neighbors but the sacrifice and hours away from your family reaps many rewards.
