Property Tax Bills

Summer taxes are payable July 1 through September 14 without interest. Beginning September 15, add 1% interest to the unpaid balance. An additional 1% per month will be added on the first of each month thereafter. Winter taxes are payable December 1 through February 28. Beginning March 1 all unpaid taxes are payable to the Oakland County Treasurer. Failure to receive tax bill does not waive interest.

Payment Options

CREDIT CARD PAYMENTS ARE NOW ACCEPTED AT TOWNSHIP HALL!  See below for details.

Tax payments are payable at the local branches of Oxford Bank and Genisys Credit Union.

CREDIT CARD PAYMENT - AT TOWNSHIP HALL

At the counter we now accept Visa, MasterCard, Discover and American Express for most items, including tax payments, water bills and permits (registration payment for classes and events can be made at the Orion Center.)  Extra fees are charged for the use of credit cards by the Card Service Provider directly.  Orion Township does not charge extra for this convenience.  Be sure you fully understand any additional amount you will be charged before completing your payment.

CREDIT CARD PAYMENT ONLINE OR BY PHONE - 1ST OPTION
(Taxes and Water bills only)
Credit cards are accepted via 1-800-272-9829 or on the internet.  See the back of your bill for instructions on how to pay or go to www.oriontownship.org then click on:  Government => Departments => OFFICE OF THE TREASURER, look under the heading "Payment Options" for more information.  Official Payments, the Payment Service Provider, charges a 3% convenience fee for credit card payment processing or $3.00 fee for an e-check payment.  To make payment use Jurisdiction Code 7019.

If you are paying ONLINE, the below links may be helpful.

!!!ATTENTION!!! Make sure that the field for “PAYMENT ENTITY” states “Orion, Township of” BEFORE you finish processing your payment. If you put the wrong entity in there, your payment will be delayed and could result in late fees.

To make a property tax payment by phone, use Jurisdiction Code 7019. You can also pay a water/sewer bill by phone.

CREDIT CARD PAYMENT - 2ND OPTION (Taxes Only)
Payment can be made through Oakland County at www.paylocaltaxes.com.  A convenience fee of 2.75% for credit card payments or $2.75 fee for an e-check payment is applied by the Payment Service Provider.

Please read the back of your tax bill for important information!
Failure to receive a tax bill does NOT waive interest.

When Do Taxes Get Sent Out to Homeowners?

  • Summer taxes are sent out July 1
  • Winter taxes are sent out December 1

Where Can I Pay My Taxes?

Taxes are due upon receipt of bill. To avoid all interest, summer taxes must be paid by September 14, and winter taxes must be paid by February 14. Beginning September 15, add 1% interest to the unpaid balance of your summer tax bill. An additional 1% per month will be added on the first of each month thereafter. Failure to receive tax bill does NOT waive interest.

Can Tax Payments be Deferred?

Summer taxes may be deferred if your 2015 total household income was less than $40,000 and you meet one of the following requirements:

  • Senior Citizen, age 62
  • Paraplegic, Quadriplegic
  • Eligible Service person, Veteran, Widow or Widower
  • Blind Person
  • Totally & Permanently Disabled

Applications for deferment are available at the Treasurer’s office or online at the State of Michigan website: Application for Deferment of Summer Taxes. The application must be returned by September 15. You must apply for deferment EVERY YEAR.

Summer deferments do not reduce your tax bill, they only waive the interest until February 28. You must meet one of the requirements listed above to be eligible. You must show proof of income.
