5K Dragon Dash

Whether you run or walk, join us for the 21st annual Dragon Dash! This annual tradition welcomes in the Spring training season with a 5K certified course beginning and ending at the Orion Center following the Polly Ann Trail south toward Civic Center Park to kick off your outdoor exercise ritual. Awards presented to the overall top male and female participant, masters divison (50+) as well as the top three male and female runners in each age division. All levels of runners and walers are invited, from beginner to competitive.

Park Play Day for Kids with Special Needs

This day is specifically for families with school age children that are having a difficult time in a traditional classroom setting. Come out to the park and talk with parents that are sharing the same issues. Bring materials for contacts that have helped your family find successful methods to work with your children. Organized activities will be implemented by Coach Goldberg, long time youth sports instructor for Orion Township and specialist in working with kids that exhibit ADHA/ADD behaviors as well as children with Autism Spectrum Disorder. Drop in at any time between 9:00-11:00 am.

Indoor Community Garage Sale

Your favorite community garage sale has moved indoors!  The kids finally back in school and the house is empty, it’s time to clear out the clutter!  Stay warm and dry indoors, bring it in, use our space to sell, sell, sell. Don’t worry about the weather, making signs, putting them out or people parking on your grass. We do all the work for you!  Household items only, no wholesalers/businesses please. We supply the table, chair and advertising.  All merchandise is limited to your table so be sure to purchase adequate space! Any unsold merchandise must be removed at conclusion of the sale by the owner. Vendor set up opens at 8:30 am.  Spaces are limited.  Parking and Admission is FREE!

Orion Center Blood Drive

The Orion Center and Michigan Blood are partnering to organize a Blood Drive. Michigan Blood supports patients and families where you live, work and play in Michigan. Any healthy person 17 or older who weights at least 110 pounds may be eligible to donate. The need for blood among our Michigan hospitals is urgent. Be a part of the solution. Breakfast at Tiffany's
Join us for Breakfast at Tiffany's. Wear black or turquoise and glam it up with pearls! Enjoy brunch, tea and treats as we view the movie Breakfast at Tiffany's starring Audrey Hepburn and George Peppard, filmed in 1961 from a book written by Truman Capote. The story is about Holly Go lightly, a naive eccentric socialite, who lives in New York, who falls for her neighbor Paul, who is a writer. She can be seen window shopping at Tiffany's while she eats breakfast pastries. The movie won two academy Awards for Best Original Score and Best Song"Moon River" by Henry Mancini. Adaptive Dance
Special need and individuals with disabilities ages 15+ and older are invited to an evening of music, dancing, and light refreshments at the Orion Center, 1335 Joslyn Rd in Orion Township. Pre-registration preferred, walk-ins are welcome.  Chaperones are free.

Inside/Out DIA Grant

In November of 2015, Orion Township Community Programs was awarded the Inside Out DIA Grant! Sponsored by the John S. and James L. Knight Foundation. This grant brings high quality reproductions of masterpieces from the DIA's collection to outdoor venues throughout metro Detroit, including Orion Township, Oxford Township and Romeo. This grant will include the installation of seven reproduced works of art to seven different outdoor locations in Orion Township. These locations are; the Orion Township Public Library, the Orion Center, the Polly Ann Trail, Camp Agawam, Orion Oaks Dog Park, Friendship Park and Wildwood Pavilion. Installation will be completed in the Spring and the pieces will remain on loan until early Fall 2016.

DIA Speaker and Luncheon Series

Come to the Orion Center for a speaker from the Detroit Institute of Arts talking about the works on display at the DIA. You will have lunch and listen to a speaker on the topics listed below. Each date will require advance registration one week prior to the date and will cast $6 per person per talk.

Blow Your Own Ornament Workshop

Come to the Oxford Glass Studio and help the glassblower, Dave Hilty, create a one-of-a-kind heirloom ornament for yourself or a gift. Pine Lake Glassworks is offering children and adults from age 5 to 105, the rare opportunity to blow glass this holiday season. We will show you how ornaments are made. You will choose your ornament style, colors and actually assist the glassblower in the entire process! Let us do all the hard-work for you allowing you to have all the fun, doing the actual "blowing" earning yourself the title of a "glassblower" by the completion of the class. Your unique to you ornament will be available or pick up or shipping the following day. No experience necessary- beginners are welcome! Appointment times are 20 minutes each and fill quickly. Register in person at the Orion Center, 1335 Joslyn Rd to choose your personal appointment. Cash, check or money orders are accepted. On-line registration is not accepted for this program.

Boo Bash

Join us for an evening of Halloween fun, including cider and donuts, hay wagon rides, trick-or-treat street, crafts, carnival games and much more! Pre-registration is required, spaces are limited. Infants in carriers are free with registered sibling. Don't forget your camera, costume, flashlight and a trick-or-treat bag for all of your goodies! Walgreens will be on site taking photos in front of a festive fall-themed background. All families will receive 1 free 4X6 print and will have the option of purchasing a photo package.

Pumpkin Carving Party

Still need to carve your jack-o-lanterns, roast your pumpkin seeds, and decorate your yard for the autumn season? Save time and stress with our Pumpkin Carving Party! Don't like making a mess in your house? Come and make a mess at the Orion Center, hang out with friends and neighbors, or make some new friends while you carve away and we clean up the pumpkin goo! BYOP (Bring Your Own Pumpkin). Don't forget to bring a container for your pumpkin seeds if you plan on roasting them at home. All tools needed for this activity will be provided, including knives, scoops, and carving templates. Pre-registration required.

Breakfast with the Grinch

The holiday season is here! Come to the Orion Center to enjoy breakfast with the Grinch. Participants will enjoy a delicious breakfast of green eggs and ham. Have your picture taken with the Grinch and sit back while you enjoy the story of How the Grinch Stole Christmas. Santa may also be stopping by for a visit. Remember to bring your camera for a photo opportunity you don't want to miss. Infants in carriers are free with a registered participant. Walgreens will be on site taking photos in front of a festive background. All families will receive 1 free 4X6 print and will have the option of purchasing a photo package. Only registered participants will be served breakfast. Parents planning to eat must also register.

Harvest Dinner Dance

The Friend's of the Orion Seniors is sponsoring a Dinner Dance. Come celebrate fall's harvest and dance the night away. All proceeds help purchase equipment and fund Senior programming. Bunny Bop

Spring is in the air! Hop on over to the Orion Center for a photo visit with a special bunny, refreshments, craft projects, an egg hunt with toys and candy stuffed eggs and a few other surprises. Bring your own basket for filling with candy and prizes. Youth will be broken down by age fro equal opportunity hunting for all ages. Egg hunt will be held indoors in the event of inclement weather. Don't forget your camera! Walgreens will be onsite to capture the moment, optional photo purchase available. Children in carriers and adults with registered participates are free.
